The alluvium of Morava river belongs to the most significant wetland ecosystems of Slovakia. This fact is proved by its inclusion in the List of Ramsar localities. Its values could be preserved due to the interplay of several positive circumstances. In the time when in Central Europe began the intensive economical utilization of such streams as Morava is, its inundation area was inaccessible for public during some decades (in years 1948 to 1990). This fact helped to conserve its biological values. This was the reason why World Bank has chosen the Morava river alluvium as one of the target area for biodiversity protection within the frame of GEF (Global Environmental Facility).
