The objective of this study was to determine how the long time farming effected on selected physical and chemical soil properties. To study and comparison were used soil samples from cropped soil and from nearby uncropped soil (oak-hornbearn forest) from Báb locality (Latitude 17°54′E, Longitude 48°19′N, Altitude 190 m, average monthly temperatures -3 to 20°C). Soil samples were taken and analyzed at intervals of 0.1 m down to the C horizon. Sharply increased values of bulk density (ζd) in layer 0.2-0.4 m in cultivated soils were result of anthropogenic soil compaction. On the contrary the ζd the forest soil increased regulary with depth. Due to strong erosion was thickness of topsoil in the cropped soil on the colluvial foot slope 0.3 m lower than from the nearby forest soil. In the soil under forest ecosystem were higher values of hydrolytic acidity, cation exchange capacity, sum of bases, and lower base of saturation as compared with arable soil. Concentrations of organic pollutants (PCB, PAH) were lower in the forest soil. Content of soil organic matter (SOM) in topsoil of the forest soil was 1.3 - 2 times higher than in nearby cultivated soil. On the contrary the quality of SOM i.e. degree of humification was higher in the cultivated soil.
