Horizon 2020 is the biggest EU Research and Innovation Programme with nearly €80 billion of funding available over 7 years (2014–2020). Specifi programme is implemented through two-year work programmes settng out funding opportunities under the diffrent parts through calls for proposals. It is a budget of around €4 billion intended for the societal challenge 2 “Food Security, Sustainable Agriculture and Forestry, Marine, Maritime and Inland Water Research and the Bioeconomy“. Its current calls include several opportunities to support demand-driven innovation projects in agriculture, which are split into two diffrent approaches in particular: the “thematic networks” and the “multi-actor research projects”. The approach to sustainable primary production will be pursued and strengthened during the development of the content of the Work Programme 2016–2017.
